Survey Results: Can You Be Hypnotized Against Your Will?
A few years ago I did a survey and asked:
1. Can a person be hypnotized against their will?
2. Can a person be made to do something against their will in hypnosis?
The results were interesting. About 2/3 of those who answered, answered no to both questions (62.4% and 64.5% respectively).
Many of the comments were insightful. Some people made the distinction between hypnotizing against someone’s will and hypnotizing someone without their knowledge. Others questioned the meaning of the word will.
As for question #2, a few folks suggested that a hypnotist might make a person do something against their will, but are less likely to be able to make someone do something against a deeply held moral value.
All in all, I was impressed with the intelligence behind the comments. But wait … there’s more!
You don’t have to tell me your answers, as the survey is over, but answer those questions for yourself:
1. Can a person be hypnotized against their will?
2. Can a person be made to do something against their will in hypnosis?
Once you have your answer, go take a look at these videos (Are they being hypnotized against their will?) and see if you agree with the survey results.
